After Michael Strahan shockingly exited Live with Kelly, viewers of the show anxiously awaited news of who his replacement would be. Big names such as Andy Cohen, Anderson Cooper, and Andy Cohen have come and gone, with nothing seeming to stick for the long-time host Mrs. Ripa. Fortunately the show has had great success despite the lack of replacement, as the guest hosts have helped boost ratings considerably. The network even hosted a contest that allowed at-home viewers to compete for the prize of guest co-hosting for the day. While the excitement of seeing who the daily guest would be has kept things running quite well, the new replacement who will be sitting beside Kelly every morning may have been found.
The name of the personality in question is athlete and reality star Kroy Biermann. Like Strahan he’s also an NFL player, although he’s currently a free agent. News of him being the replacement has come as a bit surprise, as many believed Megyn Kelly would take the seat. This assumption was perhaps due to the relationship Kelly had with President-elect Trump and the fact that the show she guest co-hosted on aired hours after the election had wrapped up. However, the Fox News anchor has a permanent gig hosting her own political show named The Kelly File, which she is very unlikely to give up.
The rumor of Biermann’s possible seat on the show first began when his wife, television personality Kim Zolciak-Biermann, said that he’d be an excellent replacement for Strahan during an interview. Soon after, Troy took to Twitter to ask his friend Andy Cohen how he could land the job. Cohen, who was once himself a contender for the seat, had previously said that he didn’t understand why Strahan would have left the “greatest job on TV.” So why didn’t he take the job? Andy has been the long-time host of Watch What Happens Live, which is where he first met Kim Zolciak-Biermann during her time on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
With Troy now a free agent and only filming for his reality show Don’t Be Tardy For The Party, it’s clear that he’s certainly a viable choice. Unfortunately neither Ripa or ABC have commented on this rumor, as it may be only talk at this moment. It’s also likely that the network, which apparently blindsided Ripa by not telling her about Strahan’s exit, will give her a lot of say. With the show being so popular, the last thing they’ll want is to give her a reason to exit as well.
